SNOW FORECAST IN FAILSWORTH ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2009.

It may look like Hollywood, but it’s definitely Hollinwood – and while the Met Office may have wrongly forecast the summer weather, Housing Units can confidently predict it will be snowing in Failsworth on Tuesday, September 8.

“So far as we’re concerned, Christmas starts on September 10, with the opening of our Christmas department,” said Nick Fox, director of Housing Units.

“Our concession to the timing is that no doubt there’ll be a very un-Christmas-like heatwave, so we’re moving winter forward a bit – and bringing in snow machines to spray some trees and part of our store and retail park a couple of days in advance.

“We’ll be carrying out photography and filming for some of our Christmas activities on September 8, and we’re using the same sort of equipment that Hollywood movie producers and the likes of Disney employ.”

Housing Units will launch its 2009 Christmas department on Thursday, September 10 – 105 days before Christmas.

The department will be 3,500 square feet of floor-space dedicated to Christmas trees, decorations and accessories, and six ready-made decoration themes.

“Customers like the idea of being able to spread the cost of purchase of decorations – especially at the moment - and there’s no doubt that UK families are very much following the North American trend of making Christmas a much bigger and more decorative event in any case,” said Nick Fox.

“As a retailer we are seeing people actually spending more on Christmas because they can spread the cost. The Christmas department saw 2008 turnover up 15% on 2007.”
