Staff at Housing Units, one of the UK’s leading home furnishings stores, have the X-Factor according to talent-spotting customers.
Team members at the Failsworth, north Manchester, retailer have been thrust into the limelight after 15 of them starred in Housing Units’ acclaimed TV ad which was directed by one of Steven Spielberg’s favourite up-and-coming film directors, Manchester’s Phil Hawkins.
And now they’re being asked for autographs and the occasional photograph by customers who recognise them from the television commercial.

“I didn’t exactly get involved in an in-depth casting, I was on the sales floor going about my normal day when one of our directors, Nick Fox, volunteered me at literally two minutes’ notice,” said Sue Rubacha, Occasional Furniture Department Manager.
Sue, 48, from Royton has now appeared in Housing Units’ last two TV ads.
“Housing Units is a genuine family business with a genuine family business attitude. The staff love getting involved in this sort of thing, and the customers do comment that the people in the TV ads are actually real staff.
“We’re enjoying a little bit of fame locally and with regular customers, and while the autograph and photo requests are a little tongue in cheek, it creates a nice lift in what is already a very happy working environment.
“It is also extremely educational getting involved in the TV ads – you don’t realise quite how much goes into one, or how many people are involved.
