A leading furniture retailer is expanding part of its business and launching a new outlet in a robust push to chase post-recession opportunity.
North Manchester-based Housing Units, one of the country’s leading furnishings stores, is launching The Furniture Outlet at its Failsworth retail park, and is moving its baby and nursery goods business – Coochicoo - to bigger premises.

The Furniture Outlet will stock ex-display and clearance lines, and specially sourced value and no-frills ranges.
“Around a third of the stock will be ex-display and clearance, but the vast majority will be value furnishings and accessories that we have seen on our buying trips around the world,” said Nick Fox, director of Housing Units.
“These are items and ranges that we have identified as being of great value and good design, and while they are not the sort of mainstream goods Housing Units itself would stock, they are nevertheless of great interest to shoppers looking for stylish no-frills furnishings.
“The ex-display and clearance lines we’ll also be displaying alongside fall into similar budget categories, so we expect to attract a wider range of clientele as a consequence – and who we strongly suspect will also graduate to Housing Units’ more premium core products.
“We have decided to expand Coochicoo for two reasons; firstly, baby and nursery goods will always be in demand, and demand for Coochicoo’s products are also gathering pace – when upturn gathers pace, we’ll be in a strong position to ensure we’re ahead of the game.”
