AUTUMN AND WINTER INTERIORS: FAB-U-LOUS IS IN-DOORS.

It’s going to be a fab-u-lous autumn and winter – for interior style and design, according to home furnishings store Housing Units. “The catwalk and fashion worlds are going to be huge influences on interior design this autumn and winter in terms of both style and materials, with big moves towards feel-good, comfort and cosiness – very much in line with seasonal clothing ranges,” said Nick Fox of Housing Units.

“We’ve bracketed five distinct interior design trends into styles likely to surface in the style-aware home. “‘Modern Country’ brings the best of the outdoors indoors: natural fibres in seasonal classics – accessories with wool, felt and faux fur are brought into the home. This trend comes from the cat walk - it’s all about the great outdoors and keeping warm. Dress your sofa as you would a bed with cosy knits, blankets and throws. “And ‘Boudoir Couture’ is the name we’ve given to bedroom style - the opulent layering of the bed, with faux fur, velvets, brocades and exquisite embroideries. It’s feminine, luxurious and sophisticated and creates an elegant atmosphere with sparkling crystals and mirrored furniture – a mix of classic and contemporary.

“Time is always a great source of inspiration for interior design, and retro is always a strong and workable theme: ‘Colour Retro’ is light-hearted and feel good, with colour and pattern coming through, and strong, bright colours in tableware and housewares, while floral prints, quirky motifs of birds and botanicals are showing themselves in bedding.

“As well as time as a design inspiration, there’s always travel. In ‘New Tribal’ we’re seeing a mix of vibrant and bold colours, and exotic glamour, with designers and homeowners alike looking to traditional pattern, design and techniques for modern inspiration. This is coming through in bed and decorative accessories especially. “Elsewhere, there’s a shift away from ‘bling’ to something that shimmers and glistens in a more sophisticated way – we’re caling it ‘Lux Layering’. All that sparkles – crystals, sequins, glitter - provides glamour for grownups. This is a strong look in home accessories across vases, picture frames, candle holders, lighting and bedding.
